Tucson, Arizona, located just 60 miles from the Mexico border, provides a vital context for understanding and engaging with issues surrounding immigration. As a gateway to the borderlands, Tucson is an ideal setting for your group to deepen their knowledge and involvement in matters related to immigrants, asylum-seekers, and the broader immigration system.
During your Be The Neighbor trip to Tucson, your group will immerse themselves in a week of education, collaboration, and hands-on service. Activities are designed to help participants understand what it means to welcome and support our immigrant neighbors. You will spend time along the border wall and take part in desert walks and water drops in the Sonoran Desert, gaining perspective on both the beauty and the danger faced by those crossing the border. Your group will participate in humanitarian aid efforts, contribute to building projects that support local communities, and visit immigration court to learn firsthand about the realities of deportation and the systems immigrants navigate. We hope your group will go home ready to partner with neighbors new to your community to welcome, advocate, and work together for change and hope!
